Musical Theater Workshop Example
1) Exercises For The Musical Theater Actor: To be the most compelling and truthful storyteller, you must first focus your mind, loosen up your body, and prepare your voice.
Learn Leigh’s favorite musical theater warm-up exercises to help sharpen your communication and listening skills, and find an authentic connection to yourself, your character,
your fellow actors, and your audience.
2) Acting for Musical Theater: Scene work in musical theater is
one of the actor’s greatest challenges. Learn the best techniques
to successfully interpret and elevate the text into the world of musical theater. Work in pairs and small groups on some of Leigh’s favorite musical theater scenes and learn from her insightful dramatic direction and guidance.
3) Performing Musical Theater Songs: The musical theater actor’s responsibility is to believably transition from dialogue to song and naturally continue the storytelling process with music and lyrics. Bring 32 bars of your favorite musical theater song and work
one on one with Leigh to discover the most powerful ways to effectively develop your skills as an actor through song.
4) The Musical Theater Audition: The actor’s job is to continue learning and it is essential to learn how to audition for musical theater. Leigh will teach vital skills and strategies for the successful audition and take you through a ‘mock audition’ with the scenes and songs you have worked on during the Masterclass. This is your chance to polish and perform what you have learned!
Testimonials
"Leigh’s workshops left the students enthused, energized and ready to apply the skills they had learned in their following rehearsals. Working with Leigh, the Meisner techniques covered were transported out of the classroom and into a genuine vocational context. Having seen Leigh perform onstage, and then work with her in such detail, it de-mystified the process making it accessible and tangible.
All too often in musical theatre, the rigorous training of acting can be overlooked. Leigh’s workshop emphasized the importance of acting
"in the moment" in any style of performance, and deepened the students understanding of the skills needed to succeed in the industry."

“Having seen Leigh perform in ‘A Chorus Line’ in the West End, it was an amazing experience to work with her and learn ways of approaching scripts.
I was left with a stronger understanding of the demands that are put on performers in Musical Theatre, and Leigh showed us clear ways of quickly accessing character and emotion.”
Leah Carter, 6th form Musical Theatre student at ArtsEd
